I’ve been visiting this site for several years now and it features great artists like Stefan Sagmeister, Paula Scher and David Carson. They talk about many issues in the field like where the design industry is going and what inspires them. I find it very inspiring to hear from these legendary artists and these videos always inspire me to push my art further and try to get out of my comfort zone in order to reach new solutions. They have a real passion for art and its fascinating to hear them talk about their craft. for design and its I’d recommend this site to anyone that is interested in graphic design. I’ve been a fan of computer arts magazine for a while now but the recent issue really caught my eye. This issue has some great articles and exercises on getting into the videogame business. The most interesting exercise is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a flash game.I highly recommend this issue for anyone looking for guidance on making games or just looking for inspiration because the page layouts in this magazine are always great. So either pick up issue 121 or the tutorials can be viewed online at the Computer arts projects website.

i learned about this site last semester when i was taking raster graphics. Its a bunch of flash codes that can be downloaded for free. The site also allows the user to play with the flash online to see if it fits with their project. The best part is that its not just flash. There’s one for brushes in photoshop,for vector graphics and the link for this site is here

I found these through a site called Tutvids however instead of doing another tutorial review blog I wanted to focus on theses useful resources I found through it.

This post is about another useful tutorial site I found while hunting down photoshop tutorials.It’s extensive collection of tutorials for various effects in photoshop. The great part about this site is that it covers practically everything, or at the least everything I’m interested in learning. This includes photo manipulation, Interface design and painting techniques. Lately I’ve mainly explored the painting techniques and they link to Deviantart accounts. I like this because it saves me the trouble of rooting through anime fanart to find good artists on that forum. This site can be found here.

When I’m working in Photoshop I really like to listen to podcasts. I came across the Illustrative designer after listening to one day and I’ve been hooked ever since. The discussions talk about many aspects of the industry. For instance I’m listening to one now about how its important for illustrators to avoid entering areas of illustration just because they feel it will be fun. The podcast can be found on itunes or at the website.

I found this site through conceptart.org. It’s a collection of various tutorials on dvd for Photoshop, Painter and many 3d programs. The site offers customers the choice of buying the dvds or downloading directly to their computer. The price on these dvds seems high at first at $50 until you watch one and realize that this is several hours of lessons dealing with a certain creative issue like character illustration in photoshop. I’d like to talk about a book that needs to be in every freelancer’s libaray. That is called Graphic Artist Guild Handbook: Pricing and Ethical Guideline. This is aq huge book so don’t expect to read it in one sitting. There really isn’t much reason to anyways because this book is aimed at multiple creative professions so unless you want to do everything it’s unnecessary. This book gives advice to new freelancers on how they should conduct business in many different fields. It has forms inside it that can be copied and sent to clients and all the legal advice a new artist could want. This book also has a long list of resources in the back in case you want to look further into a certain field like graphic design or illustration. This book can be in many stores like Barnes and Nobles, on Amazon.com or even at the Graphic Artist Guild website.

For this post I’d like to talk about AdobeTV. Its a collection of videos devoted to discussing adobe products and a variety of tutorials. These tutorials are in depth and easy to follow. The videos vary from tutorials to videos discussing creativity and software capabilities. I found this site when I was looking for tutorials on creating a flash web site and the tutorials have been very helpful so far. The link can be found here.

Today I want to talk about an artist that provides both beautiful speed paintings and uplifting speeches all at once. His name is Bobby Chui.

Bobby Chui is an instructor at imaginism studios and it is full of wonderful tutorials for any aspiring illustrator. This site allows artists from around the world to study under many talented artists. This site provides classes in painting, character design, story boarding and comic book illustration.

His videos can be found here. These are useful for any artist that wants some encouragement. In his videos Bobby Chui talks about what to expect in the industry and how to get there through perseverance. His videos are also speed painting portraying how to create effects in photoshop, sketchbook and painter.

I strongly encourage anyone interested in illustration to bookmark his videos and look at his art.

This week I’d like to talk about an important website for all artists. It’s called Adhub.com and it is the go to place for finding work in upstate New York. The site has several specific job categories so it’s possible to look up almost any creative profession in an area. Finding graphic art businesses that cater to your needs in a city this large can be hard so its nice having sites like this one to compile a list of possible places to look for employment. It also has galleries and news discussing what companies are currently doing. It has a job section that updates regularly too and I visit this site site on a weekly basis to find out who’s hiring.
I think that any design student that wants to stay in NY should check this site out here.
